Insights for the Month of Pisces

 

February 19^th
Sun enters Pisces 1:18 AM
Sun conjunct Neptune
It’s a watery new month. Not only is it the first day of the last sign of winter when things melt* but the Sun is also conjunct Neptune; the great sea god in the sign of Pisces which rules the waters. Pisces is about everything fishy – the myriad of beauties as well as the mermaids and the sharks. There is exquisite beauty, longing and danger in this sign. It is the sign of great compassion as well as truly sadistic behavior. Supposedly it is the sign of addiction, although I think in truth every sign has an addiction style. In any case today is a moment to dive in; into your feelings, into the collective feelings of all humans. Sorrow makes us feel so unique and separate but truly we are so similar in the ways we experience bliss as well as sorrow. What frightens you about connection? And what pulls you toward it? Measure them against each other. Muse on.

*it is possible that climate change is messing with the symbolism of the astrological signs here in the northern  hemisphere. I don’t think it will change the nature of the signs, however. Pisces will always be a sign of things melting into one another.

May your intention be for all beings to be safe, happy, healthy and to live with ease. May your impulse be toward a better world in the here and now. May we live in this universe with all the other beings who live here too. These are seed thoughts. From thoughts like these our actions arise. Of course our actions can also arise from other, less noble thoughts. Today is a moment when all our thoughts are spices in the soup of life. Don’t underestimate your contribution. 

 

February 23^rd
Mercury opposite Mars
Mr. Mars is still retrograde. Still down in the underworld moving around with stealth, trying to remember the great benefit in responding rather than reacting to the people and experiences he encounters. Mars lives in each of us as we  stalk the great power but many of us aren’t aware that we are engaged in such enterprise. Mercury offers a challenge: can we know our own mind well enough to step around the quicksand? To make it through the Fire Swamp?

Sun sextile Jupiter
Here is an opportunity for simple pleasure. A time when knowing what you enjoy could help you make a significant decision about your values. It’s not about instant gratification which is so often disappointing and troublesome. It is about what calls you to a life of true value; a life which encourages a feeling of satisfaction; even if it’s only for today.

Look for every opportunity to help your world transform. Be compassionate and kind as you do it.

 

February 29^th
Leap Day
Just in case you were wondering this day has no astrological significance. It’s a day to help adjust the calendar because time is not really linear. Time is cyclical. If we went by astrological time (i.e. today would be the 11^th of Pisces) we wouldn’t need to adjust the calendar.

 

March 2^nd
Mercury enter Aries
The mind leaps into the ardent sign. All ideas are passionate. All thoughts must be tested in the fires of individuality. If it’s true, it must be true for ME!  ‘Cogito ergo sum’ more commonly stated as ‘I think, therefore I am’. No surprise that the great philosopher Rene Descartes who came up with this  homily which became the cornerstone of Western philosophy, was an Aries with Uranus, Jupiter, Pluto and Mercury in Aries. I’m not saying that this is some ultimate truth, simply that it is a quintessential Aries concept.

 

March 3^rd
Sun opposite Mars
A big day astrologically as well as astronomically. On the astronomy side of things Mars is closest to Earth and at its brightest once every 2 ½ years. This is that moment. And tonight as the Sun sets in the west, Mars will rise in the east. The Sun can do nothing to stop it. Mars rules the night sky for a while. Look for it.
On the metaphorical side of things the warrior has been down in the underworld attempting to wrest the power object from the beast. At the very least s/he has been in the basement looking intently for something important since January 23^rd. Have you found it? You, of course, are the hero of the story. You are the courageous being who has descended to find something. Now you must decide what you did it for and what you will do with it. ‘It’ being the pearl of great price or the possibly profound shift that you see in your life. Ask yourself, “What for?”

 

March 4^th
Venus opposite Saturn
All the things we want, all the things we value come under scrutiny today. Are they really of value? Is it worth the price you have to pay? Is it really about ‘what the market can bear’ or should there be some reckoning with your own intrinsic sense of what things are worth? Can you put a price on it? If it’s love you’re looking for, today is a good day to look at it from a practical perspective even as you know that everything changes: Everything.

 

March 5^th
Venus enters Taurus
Mercury conjunct Uranus
All that serious evaluation pays off as Venus moves into one of the signs she rules. We are moving, once again, into a time of correction. The wealthiest are those most invested in the stuff of the Earth: The body; the resources. Don’t worry about buying gold so much as strengthening the supports you already have.
Despite all this earthy, practical stuff the inspired mind is thinking big thoughts. Revolution is so close to revelation. In fact revelations lead to revolutions. In this case however don’t rush madly into the fray. The revelation at hand needs some work.

 

March 6^th
Venus sextile Neptune
If it tastes good, smells good, feels good, looks good and sounds good it’s probably good. At least that was true back in the day before virtual reality and chemicals that can mimic real life. Your body knows the difference. Listen to it. Remember it is the temple for the Self. Treat it accordingly.

 

March 8^th
Full Moon: 18 degrees Virgo 4:40 AM
There is a silver thread at the core of each and every one of us. Different cultures and traditions describe it differently but they all describe the same thing. Light as a feather, strong as the strongest spider’s web it holds us to life and never asks for anything. It simply is. Celebrate that you are alive by helping someone else feel connected.  

 

March 12^th
Mercury stationery Retrograde 3:45AM
If you’re on a roll of revelation and possibly planning the revolution, looks like someone just hit the pause button. It may feel like suspended animation for a while. The fly caught in amber fascinates us all but I bet the fly didn’t like the feeling. Still there is so much good to be had when you listen up. When you remember that each individual being arises out of absolutely nothing. It’s just one big miracle.

 

March 13^th

It’s a massive party of earth for at least today and tomorrow. Venus: value
Jupiter: wisdom
Pluto: power
Mars: energy, and challenge
And the thing is they are supporting each other. It’s a glorious grand trine in earth:
Taurus: the senses; beingness
Virgo: service, adjustment
Capricorn: the right use of resources, sustainability.
You could consider your own interpretation if you write down the key words (like wisdom, value and service or possibly  sustainability, power and comfort) and see where it takes you.
The fact that Mercury is retrograde puts a bit of a damper on it but there is no doubt that the world belongs to the ones who have real stuff at the moment. Be it ever so humble, if it’s real it’s good.

You don’t have to fight for it or outwit anyone. You just have to be it, do it; make it so. There is a real world. This is it. Let there be beauty as well as function. Let there be genuine benefit for all.

 

March 18^th
Mercury (still retrograde) conjunct Uranus (again). See March 5^th)
What I said about this on the 5^th was, ’the inspired mind is thinking big thoughts. Revolution is so close to revelation. In fact revelations lead to revolutions’. Now, with Mercury retrograde we benefit from serious reflection on our revelation. If you haven’t been awakened in the middle of the night with a blazing insight that’s ok. You might be tonight, and you might not. The trick is to think outside the box. But if you already think outside The Box (everyone thinks they think outside The Box…) then what does it really mean to have an original thought? To think with a passion for truly actualizing your Self in this moment? Nature Herself is outrageously original and you are Her child.
