Insights for the Month of Scorpio
October 23rd
Sun enters Scorpio 01:47 PM EDT
Venus trine Pluto
No other sign is quite as complex as Scorpio with its layers of symbolism. There is the scorpion; poisonous and self-destructive. The snake with its belly to the ground, sensitive beyond measure to energies, reactive and regenerative, with its ability to shed skins and grow new ones. And then there is the eagle, bird of prey who sees its target from an impossibly far distance and hits the mark. The eagle, from its great height, nesting in the cliffs that morphs in true Scorpio style into a dove or possibly the mythical phoenix who rises from the ashes of its own destruction – a much higher version of transformation than the scorpion. It’s no wonder people love to hate Scorpio. That we are mystified and repelled by its power. It represents power itself and what is most important to remember is that you may not be a Scorpio, you may not have any planets or significant points in this sign; but somewhere in each and every horoscope is a house with Scorpio on the cusp or tucked inside. The powers and mysteries that Scorpio represents are necessary and very much a part of our experience as humans.
For every loss, a gain. For every gain, a loss.
Live life as if you are an alchemist, turning circumstance to gold. Nothing is quite the way it seems.
October 25th
Venus conjunct Jupiter
Mercury opposite Uranus
There are so many good reasons to love this planet. What does love, made manifest look like to you? There is nothing like a vigorous conversation/debate/argument to help us see things from another perspective. Open your eyes to the revelations that come through challenge and even conflict.
October 27th
Full Moon: 03 degrees Taurus 08:05 AM EDT
Celebrate the power of surrender which happens when we trust. Witness the amazing strength of those who experience great loss. Grief and ecstasy are not unknown to each other.
October 30th
Sun trine Neptune
Most of us are not what we seem. We project images of ourselves which are and are not images of our true identity. Sometimes the fiction is the greater truth. If you’re dressing up tomorrow – go all out!
(FYI: The actual midpoint between autumn equinox and winter solstice which is what this celebration derives from is November 7th. Just in case you were wondering…)
November 2nd
DST ends
Mercury enters Scorpio
Venus conjunct Mars
A perfect time to ponder the unsolvable; not the crimes but the mysteries. And while you’re down there, ponder the nature of desire and what it means in your life: All that we so passionately want or don’t want and the difference between being driven by desire or driving it. And then there is the greatest mystery – how to step outside: Neither grasping or pushing away. To stand at ‘the still point of the turning world’ with all that desire swirling around you.
November 3rd
Jupiter opposite Chiron
Maybe Chiron isn’t even a planet but there is something in the wisdom it seems to offer that says, ‘That crack? It’s how the light gets in. You could learn something. Don’t waste your time trying to fix it just now. Live into the paradox as best you can.’
November 5th
Sun sextile Pluto
Don’t be a ‘guilty bystander’ There are no real innocent bystanders any more. Sometimes a small step creates a big difference. Like the way it feels when someone you never saw before helps you with a heavy package or smiles at you when you were feeling a little too invisible. They might be angels, but they might not be. Who’s to say?
November 6th
Mercury trine Neptune
Dream big dreams. Power them with truth: the gut level kind. And protect yourself against delusion with loving kindness.
November 8th
Venus enters Libra
Love and beauty thrive on balance and harmony. Venus is at home in Libra. May we listen to one another with genuine interest and respond with the sense that we are all equal in the eyes of Creation. Everything else is a kind of lie. Venus is in Libra until December 4th.
November 9th
Sun trine Chiron
A great time to learn – especially from your mistakes.
November 10th
Mercury sextile Pluto
Sun sextile Jupiter
There are innumerable opportunities everywhere you go: to learn, to teach, to right wrongs and change minds without coercion.
November 11th
New Moon: 19 degrees Scorpio: 12:47 PM EST
How can we be intimate with another person if we are not intimately connected to ourselves? If we are not able to be devoted and caring to ourselves in the face of our greatest secrets? If our intention is to let ourselves really experience the truth of our feeling, that which we know at our core, there is no doubt it will utterly change us into the person we actually are.
November 16th
Mars enters Libra
Mars is at home in Aries. Therefore it finds itself far away from home in Libra – the opposite sign. Astrologers call it ‘detriment’. But Mars in detriment is aggression subdued. Of course it could also be the pretense of peace while the underlying intention is war. Passive/aggressive is Mars in Libra at its worst. Assertive diplomacy at best. As always Mars works best when we know what truly motivates our actions. Mars is in Libra until January 3, 2016.
November 13th (Friday)
Venus sextile Saturn
Mercury sextile Jupiter
You might know this but let me remind you anyway: Friday is Venus’ day. Thirteen is the number of Moon cycles in a twelve month year. This is a day to love and praise all things feminine. The goddess lives among us. You can see how this became a ‘bad luck day’ in a patriarchal world. It’s a time for opportunities; where you least expect them. Of course you must knock on the door if you want it to open. Knock on the door of wisdom in the hope of finding value and a true path to hone it. Knock on the door of the 10,000 things that need doing in the hope of accomplishing the task at hand and healing the world, even a little bit, in the process.
November 17th
Sun conjunct Mercury
Be still and listen for the voice of the soul. Nothing in this world is as it seems. There may be one great truth but it is seen through a kaleidoscope of images, all of which are and are not true.
“Thee bauty of truth is that it need not be proclaimed or believed. It skips from soul to soul, changing form each time it touches, but it is what it is.
Mark Helprin from A Winter’s Tale

Then there is transcendence; that flimsiest of countries where we long to be – especially when the situations of our lives don’t measure up.
‘The way through the world is more difficult to find than the way beyond it.’
Wallace Stevens. Reply to Papini’
November 20th
Mercury enters Sagittarius
Venus squares Pluto
Our thoughts are meant to turn toward the visionary; to consider the big picture. Problem is that it’s not the easiest thing for Mercury to do at the moment. So for us down here in the ‘so below’ we would do well to do like it says on the subway, ‘Stay focused, stay safe’ so as not to get hit by a bus. Even though it would be the buses fault.
Whatever we set our hearts on today could turn to sawdust in our hands. A little non-attachment goes a long way.
